About Us

At Guided Path, we believe in the power of compassion, community, and unwavering support in the face of terminal cancers. Our journey began with a simple yet profound vision—to be the guiding light for individuals and families navigating the uncharted waters of a sudden and/or rare terminal cancer diagnosis.

Guided Path is dedicated to providing comprehensive patient navigation and heartfelt support. Our mission is clear: to ease the burden, offer hope, and empower individuals on this unexpected journey.

What sets Guided Path apart is our unwavering commitment to the individuals we serve. That's why our approach is holistic, personalized, and rooted in empathy. We don't just offer support; we become your allies, your advocates, and your companions. Your support doesn't have a set time limit either; we are here for you for as long as you need us. Patient-centered care is at the core of everything we do.

Community Education

Does talking about end of life make you uneasy? Do you find yourself avoiding conversations with a loved one dealing with a terminal diagnosis because it puts you in an uncomfortable place? Do you lack the words to say to someone with a terminal diagnosis because of a sense of guilt, or a feeling of inadequacy because of not being able to make it better? – learn how to “be present” and how to overcome the uncomfortableness of someone’s terminal cancer diagnosis, to be the support they need.

Have you used any of the following phrases when talking with someone with a terminal diagnosis? “You’re so strong.” “You’ve got this.”  “None of us know when we’re going to leave this earth, I could be hit by a bus tomorrow.” “We are not given more than we can handle.” “Have you tried eating organic?” “You really look like you don’t feel well.” “My friend had the same kind of cancer as you and he got better.” – stop struggling to find comments that are often dismissive or empty, learn how to “listen” to the needs of someone with a terminal diagnosis and speak out of compassion, in a truly supportive and caring manner.

A terminal cancer diagnosis can create a devastating ripple effect. Most everyone, from family and friends, to our extended support circle and medical teams, grapple with the discomfort of end of life discussions, and many lack appropriate coping mechanisms. It is common for people to feel utterly unprepared, unsure how to offer support or navigate sensitive conversations. Being face to face with someone who has entered into the "end of life" phase forces us to face our fears of the unknown—our own mortality. The patient's suffering, and the disruption to their lives—can lead to a kind of emotional paralysis. Simple interactions become fraught, we often struggle to find appropriate words of support, and too often our words, though unintentionally, end up feeling dismissive or hollow.

This discomfort can create a painful silence, leaving the terminally ill person feeling isolated and misunderstood at a time when they need connection the most. It's a heartbreaking tightrope walk, highlighting the need for open conversations about death and dying, and the importance of equipping ourselves with the tools to offer genuine compassion and support during life's most challenging moments.

These challenges paint a complex picture. There's a need for a holistic approach to care that addresses not just the physical aspects of the illness, but also the emotional, social, and spiritual well-being of those facing the end of life.

This is where Guided Path Terminal Cancer Support comes in. We are passionate about helping our community understand the importance of supporting terminally ill members through compassion first care. We offer training on "how to listen" and "how to speak" with kindness and support. We understand that conversations about death can be uncomfortable, but they are necessary. End-of-life discussions are a reality we will all face. To bridge this gap, we offer two distinct educational programs.

Education

Understanding Palliative Care

This program equips the general public with knowledge about palliative care and its role in improving quality of life for those with terminal illnesses, managing symptoms, and providing emotional support for both patients and their families.

Compassionate Communication with the Terminally Ill

This program empowers family, friends and healthcare providers with effective communication skills when interacting with patients facing terminal diagnoses. It focuses on building rapport, fostering empathy, and navigating sensitive conversations with respect and understanding.

Support Group Session

Facing an advanced stage cancer diagnosis can be incredibly isolating. You may feel alone in your fears and uncertainties. That's where Guided Path steps in. The Focus of Our Efforts

Compassion First

Patient and Nurse

A terminal cancer diagnosis throws a wave of challenges at individuals and their loved ones. Beyond the physical symptoms of the disease, patients grapple with emotional turmoil – fear of the unknown, anxiety about the future, and profound grief. Daily activities can become difficult, and navigating complex medical decisions adds to the burden. Social isolation and strained relationships can also arise, as friends and family struggle to offer support. These challenges paint a complex picture, highlighting the need for comprehensive support systems that address not just the medical aspects of the illness, but also the emotional, social, and spiritual well-being of those facing the end of life.Patient-centered care is at the core of everything we do. All program activities will operate under our developed system of Compassion First.

What is a rare cancer?
